Debbie Dicker Art captures the beauty of the natural world, both underwater and on land.
Are you an art lover who prefers art from an artist you have a connection with? If so, I hope you enjoy connecting with me. Whether I already know you or you get to know me through watching me online as I create new work and share my adventures, I look forward to getting to know you. I hope you enjoy my work and that it puts a smile on your face.
My history:
Starting with Kindergarten, I was the class artist. I had difficulty with reading and writing. Art provided me with safety and support.
Growing up in New York City, I had the fortunate experience of going to the High School of Art and Design, launching me on my artist path.
The ’70s were an exciting time for me. I hopped around to several different schools studying art. I started at the State University of New York at New Paltz, New York, where I learned my art and design foundation. Next, I was a textile major at Buffalo State College, weaving non-traditional art on an 8-harness loom. Then it was off to Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. In my senior year, the school commissioned me to do a large artwork to celebrate its 50th anniversary, from a field of professional artists. I designed and installed four site-specific two-story pieces for the foyer of Lincoln Hall, where they hung for 20 years.
I earned a teaching credential and moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where I remain to this day.
My years in the San Francisco area have been exciting and rewarding. I received a California Arts Council Grant and did a three-year art residency at Laguna Honda Hospital. Next, I co-founded a commercial photography studio with my husband. After 20 years, we closed that business and parted ways.
Following that, I spent 17 years as the Head Art Teacher at Marin Horizon School in Mill Valley, CA.
I love to travel. I love everything about it the new sights, the unique cultures, and the new experiences.
I created my dream trips, which took me to Bali! Then I was off to Vietnam and Cambodia, where I taught a group of young children. Next, I was off to China, teaching English using art. That trip included a week of travel along the Silk Road to the Gobi Desert. I continue to travel the world. I especially enjoy international art shows. The Venice Biennale and Miami Basel are two of my favorites.
In 2018 I started diving, and this has opened an entirely new world of experiences, world travel (Fiji, the Maldives, and the Solomon Islands, so far) and stimulation for my art.
Two years ago, I retired from teaching and now truly get to live my dream of doing my art and traveling the world.
Online Art Classes coming.
Two years ago, I started teaching adults and will do so again. It will be a class inspired by drawing what you observe while traveling near and far.
